The Department of Geography provides exciting opportunities to explore planet Earth through hands-on experiences and research. Students develop diverse technical and analytical skills necessary to understand some of the most pressing issues of our time. Geography degrees bridge environmental and social sciences, providing a unique opportunity to study people, the environment, and their relationships. Graduates of the geography programs become leaders in a diversity of fields that require creative and integrative thinking. Geographers work in resource management, city planning, national security, energy development, and marketing, among many other careers. The unique critical thinking and spatial analysis skills of geographers are in high demand by industry, non-profit, and government sectors.

David Cairns Named 2025 AAG Fellow for Advancing Geography

Texas A&M Geography Department Head Dr. David Cairns was named a 2025 Fellow by the American Association of Geographers, a prestigious honor recognizing his groundbreaking Arctic research and contributions to advancing the field of geography.

Mellon Foundation Awards Texas A&M University $4.6 Million To Aid Environmentally Vulnerable Communities in Texas

With the support of a grant from the Mellon Foundation, Texas A&M’s College of Arts and Sciences will launch a national center of excellence in humanities-based and community-engaged research on the social impact of environmental crises.
